    Monodromy analysis of the computational power of the Ising topological quantum computer

    We show that all quantum gates which could be implemented by braiding of Ising anyons in the Ising topological quantum computer preserve the n-qubit Pauli group. Analyzing the structure of the Pauli group's centralizer, also known as the Clifford group, for n\geq 3 qubits, we prove that the image of the braid group is a non-trivial subgroup of the Clifford group and therefore not all Clifford gates could be implemented by braiding.     Pixie: A heterogeneous Virtual Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Array for high performance image processing applications

    Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Arrays (CGRAs) enable ease of programmability and result in low development costs. They enable the ease of use specifically in reconfigurable computing applications. The smaller cost of compilation and reduced reconfiguration overhead enables them to become attractive platforms for accelerating high-performance computing applications such as image processing. The CGRAs are ASICs and therefore, expensive to produce. However, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are relatively cheaper for low volume products but they are not so easily programmable. We combine best of both worlds by implementing a Virtual Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Array (VCGRA) on FPGA. VCGRAs are a trade off between FPGA with large routing overheads and ASICs. In this perspective we present a novel heterogeneous Virtual Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Array (VCGRA) called "Pixie" which is suitable for implementing high performance image processing applications. The proposed VCGRA contains generic processing elements and virtual channels that are described using the Hardware Description Language VHDL. Both elements have been optimized by using the parameterized configuration tool flow and result in a resource reduction of 24% for each processing elements and 82% for each virtual channels respectively.Comment: Presented at 3rd International Workshop on Overlay Architectures for FPGAs (OLAF 2017) arXiv:1704.0880

    Antimicrobial Treatment of Orthopedic Implant-related Infections with Rifampin Combinations

    The purpose of this prospective clinical study is to evaluate the role of combination chemotherapy with rifampin in the treatment of orthopedic device—related infections in which the implant could not be removed. Eleven patients with orthopedic implant-related infections due to staphylococci or streptococci were treated with the implant in situ. Each antimicrobial regimen included rifampin in combination with a β-lactam antibiotic or ciprofloxacin. The median duration of treatment with rifampin was 86 days (range, 15-336 days) with a median follow-up of >;24 months after cessation of therapy. Treatment was successful for 82% of patients. Failures were associated with documented inappropriate treatment. These preliminary clinical data are supported by data from in vitro studies and animal experiments. Combination therapy with rifampin, in particular rifampin and a quinolone, should be considered for patients with orthopedic implant-related infections if the implant cannot be remove

    Molecular binding in interacting quantum walks

    We show that the presence of an interaction in the quantum walk of two atoms leads to the formation of a stable compound, a molecular state. The wave function of the molecule decays exponentially in the relative position of the two atoms; hence it constitutes a true bound state. Furthermore, for a certain class of interactions, we develop an effective theory and find that the dynamics of the molecule is described by a quantum walk in its own right.     Genome-Based Analysis of Klebsiella spp. Isolates from Animals and Food Products in Germany, 2013–2017

    The increase in infections with multidrug-resistant and virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) strains poses a serious threat to public health. However, environmental reservoirs and routes of transmission for Klebsiella spp. that cause infections in humans and in livestock animals are not well understood. In this study, we aimed to analyze the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and important virulence determinants (ybt, clb, iro, iuc, rmpA/A2) among 94 Klebsiella spp. isolates from different animal and food sources isolated between 2013 and 2017 in Germany. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed, and the genomes were sequenced by Illumina and Nanopore technology. Genetic relationships were assessed by conducting core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST). Kleborate was used to predict resistance and virulence genes; Kaptive was used to derive the capsule types. The results revealed that 72 isolates (76.6%) belonged to the K. pneumoniae sensu lato complex. Within this complex, 44 known sequence types (STs), 18 new STs, and 38 capsule types were identified. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genes were detected in 16 isolates (17.0%) and colistin resistance in one (1.1%) K. pneumoniae isolate. Virulence genes were found in 22 K. pneumoniae isolates. Overall, nine (9.6%) and 18 (19.1%) isolates possessed the genes ybt and iuc, respectively. Notably, aerobactin (iuc lineage 3) was only detected in K. pneumoniae isolates from domestic pigs and wild boars. This study provides a snapshot of the genetic diversity of Klebsiella spp. in animals and food products in Germany. The siderophore aerobactin was found to be more prevalent in K. pneumoniae strains isolated from pigs than other sources.     O estudo visa demonstrar e analisar a importância dautilização da contabilidade por parte dos produtores rurais, quebuscam recursos para novos investimentos em instituições financeiras.Os instrumentos utilizados para a coleta de dados foramquestionários, informações sobre políticas de crédito,disponibilizadas por uma instituição financeira, e pesquisas bibliográficasinerentes ao assunto. Para atingir os objetivos propostos,foi realizado um estudo exploratório e descritivo, compesquisas bibliográficas acerca dos conceitos contábeis, os dadoscoletados por meio de questionários, direcionado aos produtoresrurais associados a uma cooperativa de crédito do município deMarechal Cândido Rondon – PR e o outro focado especificamentenos integrantes dos comitês de crédito desta instituição financeira,que analisa as solicitações de financiamento. Os questionáriosforam aplicados a cento e oito produtores, no período de julho asetembro de 2007, o que corresponde a uma amostra de 26,21% dototal da população. Constatou-se que a contabilidade é poucoutilizada pelos produtores rurais entrevistados, os quais a utilizamsomente para fins tributários, justificando a mesma não sernecessária, tendo em vista que as propriedades são pequenas e a sua utilização se tornaria um custo a mais, sem retorno considerável. Concluiu-se que produtores usuários da contabilidade obtiveram benefícios,tendo em vista que esta possibilitou um melhor planejamento das atividades,com informações precisas para a tomada de decisão e até mesmo umaredução dos custos das atividades, visto que as informações se tornarammais claras e objetivas

    Marine Strategy Framework Directive - Task Group 11 Report Underwater Noise and Other Forms of Energy

    The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC) (MSFD) requires that the European Commis-sion (by 15 July 2010) should lay down criteria and methodological standards to allow consistency in approach in evaluating the extent to which Good Environmental Status (GES) is being achieved. ICES and JRC were contracted to provide scientific support for the Commission in meeting this obligation. A total of 10 reports have been prepared relating to the descriptors of GES listed in Annex I of the Directive. Eight reports have been prepared by groups of independent experts coordinated by JRC and ICES in response to this contract. In addition, reports for two descriptors (Contaminants in fish and other seafood and Marine Litter) were written by expert groups coordinated by DG SANCO and IFREMER respectively. A Task Group was established for each of the qualitative Descriptors. Each Task Group consisted of selected experts providing experience related to the four marine regions (the Baltic Sea, the North-east Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea) and an appropriate scope of relevant scien-tific expertise. Observers from the Regional Seas Conventions were also invited to each Task Group to help ensure the inclusion of relevant work by those Conventions.
